Today our nation faces a number of daunting challenges, including economic recovery, under-performing schools, and unexpected needs arising out of disasters. It is precisely because of the magnitude and multitude of these and other complex challenges that we must reconfigure the way we think and talk about engaging Americans in addressing them. Data suggest that Americans are coming together to overcome challenges.

More than one-fourth of Americans regularly volunteer through an organization, serving mostly through religious organizations, and the most educated lead the way. Baby Boomers, born between 1946 and 1964, are currently the most engaged generation, in part because they have reached the time of life when engagement typically peaks. Boomers lead all other generations in every civic activity except voting, where those over 65 are the most engaged. 26.5% of Americans served their communities through formal volunteering opportunities with nonprofit organizations.

Our community needs more citizens to be engaged, please contact www.serve.gov or call us at 954-484-7117 for a list of volunteer opportunities.

Sincerely,
