2009 Senior Hall of Fame Elects New Member Dorothy Arbogast, Senior Companion Volunteer
For the past 25 years, the Dr. Nan S. Hutchison Senior Hall of Fame has recognized Broward senior residents, age 60 and older, for their volunteer excellence, with five or more years within Broward County.
The 2009 Hall of Famers was saluted at the 26th Annual Dr. Nan S. Hutchison Broward Senior Hall of Fame Breakfast on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Diamante’s Banquet Center. Dorothy Arbogast was one of only 10 to receive this distinguished honor this year.
Dorothy Arbogast first became a volunteer with the Senior Companion Program in 2004, and since has been a delight to the agency and her clients. Dorothy’s motto is that she is “paying back to the universe” for allowing her to still be here, as she has personally been battling Lupus for many decades. Ms. Arbogast’s hours are spent serving: clients who have tremendous physical, developmental, and emotional needs; frail elders in their homes; adult day care centers; and providing relief to caregivers who are caring for love ones with Alzheimer’s. Dorothy has served over 3,352 Senior Companionship hours over the past five years. In addition, she has been a volunteer with the Lupus Foundation for the last 45 years, as well as the Street People of Oakland Park for seven years, Cancer Foundation for six years, and Leeza’s Place for three years. Dorothy has served her clients with great compassion, integrity, dedication, humility, humor, and courage. Dorothy Arbogast truly exemplifies the meaning of being a Senior Companion, and is an asset not only to Senior Volunteer Services and Senior Corps of the Corporation for National and Community Services, but to all who are blessed by knowing her.
Congratulations Dorothy
